Education is the way to battle poverty. The church in the beautiful nation of Lebanon needs volunteer teachers at a Christian school in the capital city of Beirut. This opportunity would allow you to partner with the school to reach students and refugees from a variety of backgrounds while being immersed in the language and culture of the region.

Volunteer teachers would volunteer at the school teaching classes in English (writing, reading, grammar, etc.) as well as other subjects during the week as representatives of Compassion Services Foundation of Lebanon. This would be an effective way to connect with members of the refugee community and impact the lives of children and their families forever! The school year begins in October and lasts until late June with regular holidays. It is recommended that the volunteer teachers come to the field before October in order to meet with the principal and fellow teachers before the beginning of the school year.

While not teaching, volunteer teachers can expect to be involved in humanitarian efforts in the area (such as food boxes and clothing/school supply donations) as well as outreach efforts through the church (Bible studies, prayer walks, ESL outreach, etc.).

This appointment would be for the length of the school year. There is plenty of affordable housing available.

Levantine Arabic is the spoken language; however, French and English are frequently spoken as most people are educated in a second or third language. The work in Lebanon also reaches people of different nationalities residing locally. It is not necessary for you to speak the language, but it is recommended for everyday interactions and connecting with locals
